One87 (Critical Records, Star Warz)
Another debutant for Tempo and we are proud to have him, not many dutch promoters have booked him wich is kind of strange considering his many years he spend pushing the dnb sound forwards, he’s probably one of benelux greatest and longest dnb enthousiast! So it’s time to show your appreciation for this dnbsaurier! Here’s some intro on the One87; Jurgen Vanhessche (real name) bought his first records when he was 10 years old …and started DJ’ing when he was 15; Solid breakbeats & phat basslines were the things in music that attracted him the most. Little later, One87 started playing Jungle …what became Drum’n’bass later on…which made his name well known in Belgium & beyond. After promoting his first events (starting in 1996, with guests such as Ed Rush & Fierce,) and opening his DJ-record shops Fried Chicken Records, he formed the Millennium Kru with Daviz & Mc Soul. That was somewhere in the late nineties… and was truly something else! It was one of the most skillful & diverse Drum’n’bass sound systems around. The number of high-class bookings & top residencies they did speak for themselves…And it was also around that same time that One87 created Star Warz (in association with M.K. from Kozzmozz), without a doubt the finest Drum’n’bass concept Belgium has ever seen! In the beginning of 2008 One87 decided to go solo again, with over 750 Jungle/Drum’n’bass DJ-sets under his belt. Lenzman (Metalheadz, Shogun Audio, CIA Records)
Seems like Lenzman is joining Tempo on each edition..but we are addicted to his sound! Teije van Vliet (his daily name) has just played an amazing set at the well known Metalheadz Arches event in London. Here’s some bio on Lenzman for those people who have been living on the moon for the last year.. Lenzman is one of holland’s current rising dnb stars, he made a super (understatement) remix of Total Science’s track; Soul Patrol ft MC Conrad (of LTJ Bukem’s Goodlooking fame). And his Fade Away ft Jo-S is Lenzman’s debut release for Doc Scott’s 31 Records. And he has just signed a track for Goldie’s Metalheadz label coming up in the next few weeks! Kickmansch
Previously unannounced on the flyer of the last Tempo edition so it’s time to give this vinyl junkie a proper introduction. Probably one of Rotterdam’s underrated “dubstep” dj (maybe because he’s addicted to so many music genres, house, detroit, electronica etc) it’s hard to put him in a certain box but hey…we don’t care! Kickmansch, or Kickscogs as his colleagues at Clone call him (because he’s sort of a human encyclopedia of music), will slowly turn the heat up with his foggy smoky dubstep beats. Harsh b2b Pamb (Major League, Elementz)
Tempo debut of Pamb & Harsh; both well known names within the Rotterdam and dutch DnB scene. Harsh & Pamb are known for their consistent dancefloor anthem rollers and huge supporters for DnB in Holland with their organisations Elementz & Major Leaque to push DnB to the next level. Kapital (Ammunition, Optech)
One half of the now defunked Optech crew; Kapital aka Auke kruithof is debuting on Tempo. Their previously known dnb group Optech (Oskar Janssen and Auke Kruithof together) gave live drum’n bass performances and got the attention from many dnb organisations in Holland. Kapital has a wide interest in drum’n bass and motion graphics wich resulted in a vj gig for Sven Vath’s Amnsesia event on Ibiza last summer. Musically inspired by early dnb legends like Photek and Technical Itch, nowadays he produces dnb solely under the Kapital monniker with a twisted moody and atmospheric liquid sound. Roll Call (ft Renko & JD Larue)

Denny D
In 1995 Denny started playing drum n bass when he worked in the Rotterdam based shop Urban-Unit. He teamed up with Dj Marky and started playing at parties in the area,later that year Marky & Mace from The Hague formed the Pressure-crew and Denny joined them,together with Deckjunkie and Dre The crew hosted some infamous parties and played at venues and festivals allover Holland. After that Denny kept spinning dnb all over the country and he had the pleasure of playing with some of his favourite dj’s from the UK and Holland He is known for his fluent and natural style of mixing and the music goes across the board, always with one leg on the dancefloor. In 2006 Denny started producing and decided to put the dj-ing aside for a bit. In the followingyears his focus turned to techno and he is currently producing Techno more and more. Tempo
After 9 years of organising the monthly Diffusion events (Hollands longest monthly dnb event) it’s time for something fresh so dj Fusion set up the new Tempo concept in January 2009. Tempo represents a mix of many Drum and Bass sub genres: Liquid, Intelligent, Hardstep, Jungle-Ragga, Neuro & Dub influenced rollers but Tempo also explores other genres such as: Dubstep and Breakbeats. Furthermore we also pay attention to the classic tracks wich most of the current organisations forget about…with other words you get the full beats spectre at Tempo!

Resident
Fusion (Tempo Recordings) most precisely started in 1992 listening to Steve Mason’s radioshow on BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Services) and later on listened to mixtapes from Grooverider & Fabio & Ltj Bukem & Randall. Visiting London on a regular basis enabled him to acquire a versatile record collection from recordshops such as: Section5, Unity, Black Market, Lucky Spin, Rewind and Records Exchange. While commercial Pop music dominated the charts of the Dutch venues and only a very small selection of clubs inviting DnB dj’s in the Western part of Holland, he got frustrated and co-produced in 1993 the first full Jungle/DnB event in the Eastern part of the Netherlands. Soon after he was asked to be the resident of the dutch club Atak, an eclectic openminded non commercial dance temple where he played for more than 5 years, influencing a whole new generation of electronic music addicts.

Fusion explaines:
“I had the chance to play different kind of musical styles in one dj set, playing Breakbeat, Jungle Tekno, Drum and Bass all at once. The parties back in the days had a very unique vibe, at least since the XXIst Century when the venues became so musically specialized and their sounds so repetitive. Untill this day i am still proud to have developed and most importantly contributed the dutch Jungle & DnB sound in the Netherlands!”

The Present:
After 15 years Fusion still upholds the Drum and Bass scene with many performances and most important meeting like minded people all over the world! The large musical background he acquired during these 15 years, (including working for a dutch DnB record distributor as a sales & buyer representative) enabled him to play many diverse Drum & Bass sets wich can be described as the “Fusion” sound. His agenda still includes the best clubs, parties and festivals, including cities like: London (Knowledge, UK), Prague (Roxy + Punto Azul, Czech Republik), Olomouc (Barumba, Czech Republik), Plzen (Neutral, Czech Republik), Gdansk (Poland), Ghent & Leuven (Belgium) and Tel Aviv (TLV, Israel). He co-organised dutch tours for UK DnB artist & supported many well known dutch & foreign DnB organisations wich included performing alongside: Doc Scott, Optical, C4C, Matrix, Klute, The Insiders but also for non Drum ‘n Bass acts like Pete Philly & Perquisite and Kubus & Bang Bang wich proves he can easily adapt to versatile audiences. Nowadays he works as an export manager for the Clone
Records label, runs his own online recordshop and other pages of Tempotempo.net and recently has started a new event concept called Tempo wich will feature; DnB, Jungle, Breakbeats and Dubstep from various producers and dj’s in and around Holland. Previously Fusion organised the monthly Diffusion events along with it’s residents at Rotterdam’s Bootlegdjcafe, after nine years they have decided to pull the plug.

The Future:
Setting up his own independent Tempo Records label with his productions in co-production with Deepflow and many other producers. Check his Myspace !

Ruwedata makes his debut on Tempo, after a tip from CO2RO (also from the Lowriders collective) Thijs was happy to come and perform a deep infused dubstep set.

Ldopa (real name Pieter Kolijn), named himself after a medicin wich helps fighting the Parkinson desease. Expect some uplifting sick Liquid beats and watch his mixing skills from this versatile amsterdam dj.

Sektor is the man behind all the Spektrum XL editions in Haarlem, also voted for best dj at the annual dutch dnb awards, expect some fresh Liquid tunage!

Mike Engine is probably one of hollands multi talented artist, designs all the sleeve graphics for numerous labels such as (Teebee’s Subtitles label) and is the headhoncho for his own Engine Music label that brought tracks from Teebee, Break and himself, hopefully many new ones will follow soon. Expect some deep tech rollers from the man from Amsterdam.

DJ Silvahfonk doesn’t need any introduction, dnb dj for more then a decade, resident for ICHIone & the Cheeky Monday’s events, runs a bi-weekly radioshow on Jungletrain and produces dnb together with Mindmapper..this dj is on a roll! Expect some quality mixworks with versatile dnb/ jungle beats!

DIFFUSION R.I.P.
After nine years we have decided to pull the plug with Diffusion and refresh our concept with a new name: Tempo.

The Past:
In the year 2000 dj Fusion set up Diffusion wich derived from the lack of quality Drum and Bass events at the time. Diffusion is Hollands longest monthly DnB event and even today it’s still going strong with diverse line-up’s and special guests from Holland and abroad. Diffusion represents a mix of many Drum and Bass styles: Liquid Rollers, Hardstep, Intelligent, Neuro & Dub influenced rollers but Diffusion also likes to play the classic DNB, Jungle tracks from back in the day..

Dave Huismans is a producer who in the space of barely a couple of releases under the 2562 moniker for the Tectonic label has managed to make both the techno and dubstep communities sit up and take note. We are proud to have Dave come and perform a dj set including dubstep, techno & dnb. Proxima
Gijs Snik aka Proxima released a couple of strong 12″s such as the City Of Light ep with Clear For Launch and The Echelon Form (in co-op with Icicle). He’s know for his minimal dub dnb tracks so expect some deepness from this talented dutch producer!

June Miller
After a few years working together with & playing in bands, Bart & Mark finally found and feel in love with the Drum and Bass vibes after Mark’s move from the UK to NL.

During a few trips to parties in Utrecht in 2006 they where hooked and continued there search for bigger and better things. After the purchase of turntables and a few records they we rolling! In the quest to keep learning and delving, they found there two different styles but same direction kicked out some deep vibes from the studio. Still total novices to the game after only sitting behind logic from late 2007, there wiliness took off, taking on a fortnightly radio show with El Maria on jungletrain.net and being nominated for the best up & coming act @ the DNB Awards 2007. 2008 saw June Miller focus on there love of the music with a drive! Busy in the studio lead them to grabbing the attention of the artists they have followed from the start, like Loxy, Instra:mental, D.Bridge, Spirit, Bailey, Sabre, Gremlinz, Icicle, Nymfo and many more. A love for the deeper side and the versatility is always a big point for the guys as well what drum and bass is know for = deep rolling dancefloor music! A number of signings and playing over Europe, just pushes them on further into 2009. Also look out for a night June Miller run in Utrecht, Holland, with El Maria and Mindmapper called Connex.

Mindmapper & El Maria
Mindmapper is producer/dj from Eindhoven, the Netherlands. At the age of 16 he started working in a local bar and got in contact with the Redzone-crew (Martyn, Nymfo, Pressure and Jay) that had regular nights at this bar. This crew inspired him to start making drum&bass and get into dj-ing as well. He got to stick close to the redzone family (doing recordings and enjoying the many (pre)parties) for a couple years before the concept was ended in 2007 (but part of it lives on in the concept called ICON runned by mr Nymfo).

Mindmapper’s “style” could be described as heartripping beats with bloodcurdling atmospheres. His productions nowadays get support from ones like: Verse, Loxy, Bailey, Jubei, Gremlinz, Nolige, Nymfo, Madvibes, Dymond, Empress (and many more…).

El Maria’s key elements are deep dancefloor dnb rollers wich he loves and spread from his hometown Utrecht, The Netherlands. Former promoter of the now legendary Cultural Evolution parties alongside the Chillum & Multiplex MC, El stomped his name on his hometown Utrecht. Bringing the deeper side of Drum & Bass, at that time missing out in Utrecht, but also bringing that constant party vibe, the CE parties proved to be nights not to be missed each and every time.

In the present day, El is active first and foremost as a DJ, with a residency in Tivoli de Helling and gigs all over Holland and across Europe as well as hosting a bi-weekly radioshow alongside his comrads June Miller & Mindmapper on one of the biggest online radiostations for drum & bass, Jungletrain.net. El also promotes for the Utreg Massive collective, as well as promoting his own Connex nights in Club Poema alongside June Miller & Mindmapper. On top of this all El was nominated three times for the Dutch DNB Awards (including a nomination for best DJ in 2007).

Every now and then El also finds time to get into the studio with various co-producers, resulting in tunes that already have been picked up by names such as Loxy, Nymfo, Insight, Sabre, Double O & Mantra amongst others.

Ldopa
Amsterdam Pieter Kolijn made name together with other dnb/ jungle veteran Kaos back in the dayz…Nowaday’s he’s involved in the Rawhide events in club Paradiso and booked artist such as Calibre and many more to come. Expect some true warm liquid rollers!

Mack & Nubian
Rotterdam dnb veterans who need no further introduction, they came, they rocked and smashed every dancefloor!

March 20TH 2009 (Illynoiz vs Diffusion Old School Edition)

With great pride & honour we (Illynoiz & Diffusion) announce DJ Lee (Metalheadz, Atlas) for this special old school session and to celebrate Diffusion’s 9Y anniversary!

Lee’s involvement and history in the UK’s underground dance scene dates way back to the late 80’s.

Starting off as a resident at the legendary “Brunel Rooms” in Swindon, Lee played alongside DJ’s such as Fabio, Grooverider and LTJ Bukem. His impression there was so great that other bookings began to roll in from all over the country.

In 1994 Danny Bukem alongside Leo Roche and Sarah Sandy (Groove Connection)started the groundbreaking night “Speed” at Soho’s Mars club. Along with Fabio they started the first Drum n Bass night in Londons West End with a more mature
music policy. They needed a resident that would fit in with the futuristic sounds of Bukem and Fabio along with Doc Scott and Kemistry & Storm. Lee was made resident at what has become such a pivotal event In Drum N Bass history. Lee was also made resident at the legendary “MetalHeadz Sunday Sessions” at the now defunct Blue Note Club by Head Honcho Goldie as well as it’s reincarnations across London’s clubland and still plays for them to this day.

From here Lee went on to explore the european scene, being booked to play in Germany, Holland, Austria and Hungary to name a few followed by numerous tours in the USA, Japan, New Zealand & Australia.

As well as playing all over the globe Lee was also involved in the Timeless Recordings label, Vinyl Distribution and The Source club nights in Oxford,UK. In 2002 Lee then started a new imprint called Atlas Recordings, which has featured talented musicians from all over the globe, including Austrian D.Kay and Lee himself for Atlas 001.

Since then the duo have gone on to release tunes on Metalheadz,Hospital, 31 Records, C.I.A & Metro producing anthems such as Waxed, Desire,Tuning ,Manipulate The Universe & recently Extacy, December and the infamous Waxed V.I.P.

So for those that don’t know Lee is famed for being continually upfront with his selection and innovation making him one of the most exciting & much sought after DJs and Producers on the circuit. Only for this special event Lee will play an all accross the board Rave / Breakbeat / Jungle / DNB selection!

Switch (Jesse Weijers) was born and raised in the Netherlands (Nijmegen). At the age of 8 he started playing the trumpet. After improvising on all kinds of jazz/soul music for about 10 years, he got into producing music on his computer. Influenced by jazz, hiphop, techno, minimal house etc switch uses this combination to create an eclectic sound.

Now, 6 years later his productions are getting support from the likes of: Marcus Intalex, Ltj Bukem, Fabio, Commix, Flight, Martyn, Beta 2 & Zero Tolerance, Alix Perez, Sabre, Redeyes, Gilles Peterson and more.

Lenzman
Emerging from relative obscurity Dutch producer ‘Lenzman’ has started making serious waves of late with his deep and soulful take on Drum & Bass. Influenced by Hiphop, Soul, Jazz and life in general Lenzman’s music combines the organic grooves of yesteryears with the energy and forward thinking attitude of Drum & Bass music. His productions are currently being supported by some of the scene’s most influential figures, including Goldie, Fabio, LTJ Bukem, Friction, Marky & Marcus Intalex to name but a few. The Dutchman has music forthcoming on respected labels such as Integral, C.I.A., Spearhead and Shogun Ltd. Nymfo
Nymfo has been apart of Drum and Bass for well over a decade, a mastermind and organizer of one of the number one events in the Netherlands, Red Zone and ICON, which attracted some of the scenes biggest names. On top of these events he would also hold intimate events show casing the deeper vibes of Drum and Bass, keeping his hand on all aspects of the sound he loved.

Over the last 12 years, Nymfo has been immersed in deejaying, from his own events to headlining shows around Europe and the world, Nymfo was seen as one of the most talented up and coming deejays in the scene. This was then established in 2005 when he won the ‘Best Dutch Drum and Bass DJ’ then went on to win the same title again in 2007, cementing him as one of the scenes most talented and exciting deejays to date.

With a huge reputation to live up to as a Deejay, Nymfo has been working on production over the previous 3 years, and keeping in line with this high standard, Nymfo’s production out put has been of the same high quality that not only have they been picked up by major labels like Andy C’s RAM Records, Renegade Recordings, Critical Recordings, Frequency Recordings and the huge Shogun Limited imprint but his tunes are in demand by all the established artists and deejays world wide. Optech
One half of the Optech crew Kapital aka Auke kruithof is debuting on Diffusion.
Their Optech (Oskar Janssen and Auke Kruithof together) live drum’n bass performances are getting more and more attention from all dnb crews in Holland and abroad. They share an interest in drum’n bass and motion graphics and have been working on this project for 3 years. Inspired by early dnb legends like Photek and Technical Itch, they have produced a dark and atmospheric sound, backed up by technical and grimey visuals.

They have created an audio-visual interface that offers maximum creative freedom onstage. The visuals are synced to the music and every aspect of both the visuals and the breaks can be manipulated. Optech performs 100% live, using 3 laptop, MIDI-controllers and other gadgets. They even let the audience take control, by giving them control over the beats and projected visuals using a playstation-controller! Show your appreciation and give this man a warm welcome!

Scarr
One of our favourite dutch dnb dj’s agina back on Diffusion!
Scarr was first taught how to mix back in the late 80’s by his older cousin who played Disco and Soul. In 1993 he bought his own decks and started collecting House records. His initial enthusiasm for mixing slowly ebbed away as Scarr became frustrated with the limitations of House music. This changed when he heard the 1995 LTJ Bukem mix: “Fantazia Takes You Into The Jungle”. Scarr became hooked on Drum & Bass and again began feverishly collecting records. After gaining some experience playing at his friends’ parties, he soon started promoting his own “Urban Jungle” nights in 2000 at De Hoeve in his hometown Hoofddorp.

Not long after that, Scarr was asked to join Blazin’ Beats and became a resident DJ. Between 2001 and 2005 Blazin Beats promoted nights in De Hoeve (Hoofddorp) and P60 (Amstelveen), as well as the Artquake festival in Hoofddorp.
During his time with Blazin’ Beats Scarr increased his profile and was invited to play at major Drum & Bass nights across The Netherlands, as well as festivals such as Artquake and Mysteryland.
Recently, Scarr has joined forces with Lenzman & Dan Stezo to form Asylum. Sharing the same passion for the soulful side of Drum & Bass, the Asylum artists go out of their way to provide a musical shelter in a scene dominated by dark and relentless Drum & Bass. Today Scarr joined forces with Lenzman & MC Dan Stezo to form the Fever crew, expect some uplifting musical DnB by this quality dj!

He has been an active member of the Dutch Scene since the late eighties and has travelled through the musical styles from genre to genre following the beats that have interested him over the years. Co2RO plays a genre-free mix of beats and beyond; acid for the head and free bass for the stomach.
Apart from many years behind the wheels of steel, he is a builder and spirtual father of all-terrain-objects, alchemistic projections and theatrical environments. The Watcher
It wasn’t before the age of 15 that Arjan van Vliet (The Watcher; wich is based upon his rather introvert and observing personality) began to develop a serious interest in music. Falling in love with soundsystem culture and U.K-based trip-hop bands like Massive Attack, Lamb, Morcheeba and Portishead, he soon ended up experimenting with genres like Detroit techno, deephouse and Jamaican dub. Given this fact, it couldn’t take long before he stumbled upon a Jungle track: P-Funk – Expanding Minds. Also inspired by LTJ Bukem ‘Logical Progression series’ he soon bought his first vinyl and dj gear at the age of 17.

After fierce practising and a healthy development of taste and skills, an online demo got snapped up by Fre4knc and Silvahfonk, and they offered Arjan the opportunity to play a one hour set on their Royal & Raw radio show. After that, he made several more appearances at the well-respected online radio station Jungletrain, playing on shows hosted by Dutch crews such as
Pitchcontrol, Cultural Evolution and many others followed soon after.

Nowadays, Arjan is a passionate drum ‘n bass dj, and is determined to push good music and bring the human element and warmth in drum ‘n bass back to the dancefloors. His sound is heavily influenced by his trip-hop background, and can be described as deep, warm, rhythmic and rolling liquid funk with influences from soul, jazz, dub and Detroit techno.

Cerberus
Another fine dutch DnB dj wich plays diverse drumfunk and some deep dubby DnB from producers like: Breakage, Amit, Fracture & Neptune combined with some liquid from the likes of: Calibre, Klute en Lynx but wait….to top things of there might be some Neuro as well from the likes of Break and Commix. He dj’s a lot with his friend The Watcher and requested to play after him so who are we to deny this request….expect some deep drumliquidfunk!

Noie
Pascal van Ahee aka dj Noie was born in 1986 in Groningen. Influenced by ”Hiphop and Rap” music, but as he got older he came in contact with Jungle and later on DnB but also Funk and Jazz music was his ‘thing’. After playing many gigs in Holland in the past he got invited (after sending a wicked DnB demo) to join the Pitchcontrol crew (Groningen). With his fresh and funky style he spins everything that sounds pure in his ears. His inspiration comes from producers like: Congo Natty, Aphrodite, Calibre, Breakage, Paradox, Break, Equinox, Omni Trio, Serum, Ray Keith and many others. Another thing he loves to do is playing the drums and making some funk music with influences from Maceo Parker, James Brown and Tower of Power. Already a keen dutch dnb producer for many years, Panda finds some time in his busy dj schedule to bring Diffusion a warm visit.
